Description:

Nicosia (Lefkosia) is the bustling, cosmopolitan capital of Cyprus. Nicosia is also currently the last divided capital in Europe, with the ‘green line' demilitarised zone splitting it in northern (Turkish) and southern (Greek) territories through the capital.
 

In April 2008, the Ledra Street Crossing was opened allowing EU citizens to cross from the southern Greek side of Nicosia to the Turkish north side of Nicosia and vice-versa.

Home to the Presidential and Archbishop's Palace, Nicosia has many historical places to visit within the 16^th Century Venetian walls. It is also a modern European city with a busy commercial feel to it due to the many local and international companies who have their main offices in the capital.

As with other areas in Cyprus, Nicosia has seen an influx in foreign and local property investment.

To Visit:
Cyprus Archaeological Museum - Collection of antiques and art dating back from the Neolithic Age to the early Byzantine Period. From tombs to statues, the Cyprus Museum contains beautiful, archaic exhibits giving a comprehensive history of Cyprus.

Byzantine Museum - located in the Old City of Nicosia, the museum holds a large collection of religious icons covering the 9^th to the 18^th Century. The museum also contains an art gallery exhibiting oil paintings, maps and lithographs.

Phaneromeni Church - Church of the Revelation - Built in 1872, it contains the Phaneromeni library which has some of the oldest icons in Cyprus. To the east of the church, the marble mausoleum contains relics of the bishops and priests who were executed in 1821 by the Turks.
