Description:
Avgorou is one of the main agricultural villages in the Famagusta region of Cyprus. Its central location on the East coast of Cyprus enables easy access to Larnaca and Famagusta beaches and less than half an hour drive to Larnaca airport.
The village itself is typical of many villages in Cyprus in that there are a few shops, tavernas, bakery, butcher, pharmacy and coffee shops and the residents are very friendly and accommodating.
Traditional houses can be seen in the village and farming is still the primary industry. There has been some property development in the area but Avgorou still feels very Cypriot and old fashioned.
Apostoloi Petros and Pavlos is the village church in the centre of Avgorou built towards the end of the 19th Century
The monastry of St. Kendeas is very historical to the village. St. Kendeas came to live in a cave and was said to perform healing miracles. After he died, a monastry was built near his cave in his memory.

Ethnographic Museum - two storey house in Avgorou depicting how past generations lived.
