Kornos is in the Larnaca district of Cyprus and is centrally situated between Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca, all within a 30 minute drive from Kornos.The village is built upon hilly ground where the average altitude is 320 metres above sea level. Because of its location, it receives an average rainfall of about 450 mm and is ideal for cultivating its citrus, olive and locust trees, cereals and vegetables. There are also 5 small businesses in the village that produce honey well known throughout Cyprus.
Historically, evidence from ancient remains shows that Kornos was inhabited since Antiquity. Kornos has been documente on maps since at least the Frank Domination era. There is also a tomb dating back to the Cyprus Archaic - Cyprus Classical eras.
Kornos has also received honours and first prizes for its creation of pottery at the Annual Pan-Hellenic Exposition of Pottery in Amarousio.
To Visit:
Timiou Prodromou Church dedicated to Saint John The Baptist - Built in the beginning of the last century. A picture of the Saint dating back to around 1734 can be found inside the church.
Events:
29th August - Celebrations are held at the Timiou Prodromou Church in honour of St John the Baptist.
