Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa - Cyprus

Description:

Nissi beach is a very popular beach in the holiday resort of Ayia Napa in Cyprus. It is 4 kilometres from the centre of Ayia Napa.
 

It spans across approximately 500 metres of golden white sand and has been awarded a Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and facilities.
 

Nissi takes its name from the small islet (Nissi) which is an uninhabited islet near to the coast covered with local vegetation. The islet can be reached by wading through the shallow waters.
 

During the summer months, the beach has water sport facilities available such as water-skiing, jet-skiing, windsurfing and boat hire. Bungee jumps can also be done from Nissi beach. For the more energetic visitor, there are beach volley ball courts which are free to use.
 

The beach has bars and tavernas for a quick snack or for a relaxing afternoon eating traditional Cypriot food.  Music can be heard playing up and down the beach and is visited occasionally by famous DJ's trying out new sounds.
 

Because Nissi beach is such a popular location, sometimes it is hard to see the sand from the sun baked bodies in the summer.
 

Recent archaeological excavations have found evidence of fire lighting equipment from around 12,000 years ago indicating that the first humans on Cyprus may have settled there temporarily before moving on to other areas.
