Description:

Ammochostos/Famagusta is a region situated on the South East coast of Cyprus. It boasts some of the best beaches located in Ayia Napa and Protaras on the island. A slower pace of life can be experienced compared to the busier towns of Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia due to the main industry being tourism.

During the summer months, the region comes to life with tourists flocking to the area to relax on the beaches, sample the water sports, visit the historical churches and museums and experience the busy nightlife of Ayia Napa. The tourist season stretches from April to October.

Home to the Kokkinochoiria (red soil) villages where the tasty Cyprus potato is grown, and the hundreds of windmills, Ammochostos still has the feeling of stepping back to more traditional Cyprus times.

Property purchases are generally cheaper in this region due to the tourist industry being the main source of income. However, some places are staying open all year round and real estate prices have started to increase with the current trend.

To Visit:

Potamos fishing harbour is very quaint with its fishing boats moored up and those returning from an early morning of sea fishing. The fresh fish can be sampled in the local tavernas at Potamos.

Cape Greco - with its secluded coves and sea caves, Cape Greko or Cavo Grecko is an ideal area for snorkelling and diving. The views from the cliffs are breathtaking, especially watching the sun rise or set.

September - Ayia Napa Festival normally held late September where exhibitions, music, dance, arts and crafts take place throughout the weekend.
