Description:
Frenaros Village is located at the south-east side of Cyprus, inland from the tourist resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras.
Many new houses and villas have been built in the area in recent years, including luxury villas, but the village still retains its traditional Cypriot village atmosphere, lush with orange and olive groves.
Many think the village takes its name from the abundance of wells 'Freatia' which the village had many years ago. Others think that the name comes from the French monks who lived there 800 years ago. They were called 'frère mineurs' meaning 'little brothers'.
Most of the inhabitants of the village work in the tourist industry due to its close proximity to the tourist resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras.
Frenaros has a few small Byzantine churches which are attractively located around the village, some have stood in Frenaros since as long as the 12th century.
There is also a strong farming influence where potatoes are cultivated and animals are bred.
