Located about 2.5 kilometres west of ancient Kourion on the outskirts of Limassol, stands the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates.It is one of the principal religious places in Cyprus where Apollo was worshipped as Hylates, God of the woodland and protector of the kingdom of Kourion.
The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates was built in the 8th Century B.C. where it had a lot of Roman architectural influence in its 12,000 years of use.
The Roman Temple of Apollo Hylates in the Sanctuary, dates back to around the Hellenistic period. It is a small four column porticoes temple with a cella and vestibule.
The Sanctuary was destroyed by an earthquake around the mid 4th Century A.D. and subsequently abandoned. Several of the buiildings have now been restored.
The Sanctuary is open daily all year round at the following times:
08:00 - 17:00 (November - March)
08:00 - 18:00 (April - May & September - October)
08:00 - 19:30 (June - August)
Entrance fee is €1.71 (subject to change)
