Description:
Also known as 'Turtle Beach', Lara Bay is in the Akamas Peninsula north of Paphos. The unspoilt beaches here are simply spectacular with the mountains providing a backdrop to the view.
The long stretch of coastline provides a safe haven for the turtles and their eggs which are protected by a 'Turtle Watch' Organisation. The breeding ground of the rare Loggerhead Turtle and Green Turtle is fenced off but the rest of the bay is open and very picturesque.
A 4x4 vehicle is recommended to access the bay as the roads are more just rutted tracks. Once there, the extensive, near deserted, sandy beach is a refreshing change from the crowded tourist beaches.
From the bay, there are plenty of breathtaking walks around the Akamas Peninsula and the sea caves.
Refreshments can be purchased at the open air restaurant at the bay although many visitors choose to take a picnic.
