Description:
Summer in Cyprus starts from mid May until mid October and brings high temperatures, cloudless skies and cool refreshing breezes from the sea.The crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and range of water sports make it an ideal time to relax and soak up the Cyprus summer months.
Swimming facilities vary depending upon location. For example, the beaches in Ayia Napa and Protaras are sandy and generally safe whereas caution needs to be taken at the beaches in the Paphos area due to the strong undercurrents in the sea. Cyprus is awarded Blue Flag status on beaches that meet the European Blue Flag criteria.
July and August are the hottest months in Cyprus and most locals will be finding shaded areas on the beach or sea gazing from under the safety of a parasol. Temperatures can soar into the 40's and high sun factor is recommended at this time of the year.
The summer evenings feel longer due to the lighter nights and the aroma of smoky barbecues sizzling away from neighbours gardens can be smelt. Many people choose to relax and enjoy a meal outside the local tavernas.
