Description:
Kaledonian (Caledonian) Falls near to Platres in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus is a 2 km ramble through countryside finally ending up at the breathtaking waterfall. It is located at the top of the village and is accessible on foot or by car from the trout farm. The name came from the English and Scottish who visited the area around 1878 and were reminded of their homeland (Caledonia was the name of Scotland in ancient times). The water falls vertically from a height of 12 metres and is the highest that exists in Cyprus.
The walk takes about an hour uphill to the falls and 35 minutes to get back down. Good, comfortable shoes or boots are highly recommended as crossing the Kryos Potamos River on the stepping stones many times is part of the ramble!
The route goes through pine forests and bramble and in many parts is shaded by the trees. There are many different kinds of flowers to see on the way.
Trout can be seen during the walk darting in the crystal clear pools that cross the river. Why not stop for a drink of the fresh, spring water of the Troodos Mountains.
After the upward climb along the path, you will come to the wooden bridge which has fantastic views of the waterfall.
Relax and have refreshments and take in the stunning views before starting the descent back to Platres village.
