Description:
The Bondu Rats were first formed in 1997 but after a gap of 6 years it was reinstated and used the same logo, promotion for safety. The club is two-fold, one is to get the novices on the road and get them interested and the other is to give the current motor cyclists the opportunity to go on rides out in a group.
Although not a driving school the club gives novices the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike safely from having no knowledge at all, maybe never having sat on a bike before up to almost ready for the test. Then it's up to them to prepare and practice for the test.
The club has three training motor bikes for use. Safety is paramount and part of the introduction to motor cycling and the first few hours of that is teaching people and making them aware of why safety clothing has to be worn.
Club night is Friday night which is just a social and then on a Sunday morning members go out for a ride anywhere across the island. Timings vary according to the seasons. There are 16 fully paid up members at Ay Nik at the moment and many more attend the social nights on a regular basis.
Introductory courses are run once a month at weekends. There is a charge for the income for the club, maintenance and fuel but it's a lot less than you would pay in the UK. You don't need a motor bike to become part of the club; non motor cyclists are encouraged to the club. It's a real social thing.
