Description:
Kissonerga is a village 8 kilometres north of Paphos town in the south west of Cyprus.
It is located between Paphos and the tourist resort of Coral Bay and is notable by its cultivation of bananas in the area.
In the village, there are restaurants, tavernas, banks, bars, coffee shops, hairdressers and supermarkets amongst other shops.
The Church of the Transfiguration (Metamorphosis) and the ruins of the chapel in honour of Saints Zinovia and Filonilli can be found opposite the playground in Kissonerga.
Before Cyprus entered EU ascension in 2004, Kissonerga could be seen with an abundance of thriving yellow and green banana plantations. However, today many are lying to rot for not complying with EU standards.
The north of Kissonerga, Potima Bay, will see a new marina being built which will be the largest in the Eastern Mediterranean with the ability to accommodate around 1,000 vessels. Construction of this new Paphos Marina is expected to go ahead in 2009.
