Description:
The Limassol Zoo Garden in Cyprus is situated along the promenade near to the old Medieval Castle inside the Municipal Gardens in Limassol.
Being over 50 years old, the zoo is relatively small spanning across one and a half acres of land. A new, bigger zoo is intended to be built to accommodate the animals and to improve their habitat.
Limassol Zoo is a popular place to visit for families and young children and currently hosts lions, tigers, monkeys, moufflon, deer, foxes, ostriches, pelicans, swans and ducks with around 300 animals and birds.
The zoo also hosts the Natural History Museum which contains a large number of stuffed animals and birds and presents films on wildlife, an educational centre and a recreational area for children.
The zoo also acts as a temporary home for animals before being transferred to friendlier environments.
One of the objectives of the zoo is to educate visitors, particularly children, on the various animal's environments, protection, training and treatment.
There is also the opportunity to adopt an animal at the zoo which entitles the person adopting to an adoption certificate, photo, report on the animal and a free entrance ticket to the zoo.
Opening Times:
Summer: 09:00 - 19:00
Winter: 09:00 - 16:00
Further information and timings can be obtained by calling the Zoo's offices on (+357) 25 588 345.
