Description:
Lania is a small village, built on the southern side of the Troodos Mountains. The village lies on the main road connecting Limassol with Troodos, Lania is one of the wine producing villages in the area. The village takes its name from Lana, the daughter of the ancient god Dionysos, God of Wine according to local myth.
The area is agricultural with most people working on the land. The main product being wine-grapes and table grape. The wine-grapes produce the famous Lania comandaria and zivania. Apart from grapes almonds are also produced.
On entering the village you will find the village spring which provided all the water requirements for generations past.
Places to Visit:
The village church, in the centre of the village houses the very old icon of Virgin Mary of Valanas, an icon found hidden in the ground many years ago.
Also visit the Linos (old workshop for producing wine) maintained in the traditional way with equipment used in olden times.
