A Guide 2 Living and Working in Cyprus

Category: Resources

Description:

Cyprus became a member of the EU on 1st May 2004. Since then any nationals of any EU Member state have the right to live in Cyprus for up to 3 months without any conditions being imposed. A valid passport or identity card is required for entry purposes.

For longer periods of stay then it is neccessary to apply for an EU residency permit from the Cyprus immigration authorities.

If you are planning to come and work in Cyprus for more than 3 months then you also need to obtain the appropriate (residence) permit and register with the Census Records and Migration Department or with the Aliens and Migration Service of the police.

EU Nationals who work and reside legally in Cyprus have the same rights as Cypriot Nationals as regards to pay, working conditions, social insurance and trade union membership.

The above procedures are expected to be changed shortly for EU Nationals, who will need to register with the Census Records and Migration Department rather than obtain a residence permit.
