Description:
Pachna village is on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountain range within the Limassol district of Cyprus at an altitude of approximately 745 metres.
It enjoys an ideal climate for cultivating vines making it the largest grape producing village in Cyprus. Pottery found in excavations nearby provide evidence that vines have been cultivated here since ancient times.
The village is subdivided into Pano (upper) and Kato (lower) which provides a healthy local rivalry, but essentially it is the same village.
The name Pachna may have come from the Greek word for frost because of the colder nights it experiences due to its position on the mountains.
There are two main churches in the village, St George (Ayios Georgios) and St Paul (Apostolos Pavlos). The first primary school was established in 1855 and most of the older buildings are built in the local Pachna stone which has a chalky yellow colour.
There are two local wineries in the area and not much else to do but relax, eat and drink.
Climate:
Pachna receives an average rainfall of approximately 645 mm yearly making it an ideal location for the many vineyards in the area.
