Cyprus has a wide network of foreign, Greek and Cypriot banks. Most banks in the major towns of Cyprus (Limassol, Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca and Paralimni have English speaking staff.
 
No appointment is necessary in order to open a bank account in Cyprus. However the following documents are required:
 

  • Passport or proof of identity.
  • Proof of address (copy of contract of sale/rental, recent utility bill).
  • A small amount of money to put into the account as there is a charge for all banking transactions in Cyprus.

 

Permanent residents need to open a bank account in Cyprus when making a residency application. It is advisable for non-residents who purchase/rent property in Cyprus to open a bank account in order to pay utility bills.
  

The larger Cyprus banks include:
 

  • Bank of Cyprus Group.
  • Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd.
  • Co-operative Central Bank Ltd (CCB).
  • Laiki\Marfin Bank Ltd (also known as Popular Bank).
