Description:
Latsia is a large municipality in the south east district of Nicosia in Cyprus, with the motorway only 3 kilometres away and the city of Nicosia a 15 minute drive.
Since the Turkish occupation in 1974 when thousands of Cypriots became refugees, Latsia has seen a dramatic increase in population. This is due to the building of three refugee housing estates in the area.
Today it is one of the largest and most popular suburbs of the city of Nicosia. In recent times a large shopping mall has been built close by, it is host to the new Nicosia General Hospital, the new GSP stadium, and the new campus of the University of Cyprus.
Latsia is home to four large churches, Saint George, Saint Eleftherios, Archangel Michael (a new church) and Saint Philip.
The Nicosia Olympic Shooting Range in the ‘Apalos' area of Latsia was constructed in 1989 and is one of the best shooting ranges in Europe.
To Visit:
The Kakkaristra Canyon - a small canyon about 500 metres southwest of Latsia.
Events:
Major football matches at the GSP stadium.
