Description:

Askas is a small village in the Pitsilia region of the Troodos Mountain Range, at the foot of Mount Papoutsa in Cyprus. It is located near to the borders of Nicosia and Limassol and has an altitude of approximately 1000 metres.

With a good climate, Askas produces vines of the wine-making variety and cultivates olive, hazel, walnut, almond trees, fruit trees, and vegetables.

The village has all the neccessary ammenities such as schools, restaurants, tavernas, a police station, cafe's and shops that a typical Cyprus village is afforded.

Traditional houses were built entirely from stone, clay, and pinewood taken from the surrounding mountains. The roofs have tiles all of which were 'kneaded' and 'baked' locally.

Climate:
Askas receives an average annual rainfall of approximately 800 mm - summers are dry and cool and winters can be cold and wet.

To Visit

Timios Prodromos Church - built in the 14th Century, its steeple is made of chiselled stone and the church is renowned in Cyprus for its beautiful bell.

Agia Paraskevi Church - formerly called Agia Christina Church.
