The best way to sample the foods that Cyprus has to offer is to order a traditional Cyprus 'Meze' in a local taverna where either a fish or meat Meze will be served.
The meal usually consists of locally-made bread, a 'village salad' with olives, coriander and feta cheese, followed by a collection of up to 20 small dishes from the list below:

| Souvlaki | Barbequed pork or chicken. |
| Sheftalia | Spicy sausages. |
| Stifado | Beef cooked in wine. |
| Tachini | Dipping sauce made with sesame seeds. |
| Taramosalata | Dipping sauce made with fish roe. |
| Tavvas | Lamb with onion and spices. |
