Description:
Liopetri village is located in the southern area of Ammochostos District a few kilometres from the sea.
On 2nd September 1958 the Battle of Liopetri took place between the British and four EOKA fighters.
Liopetri used to be known for its Basket making, Weaving and Embroidery although modern technology and materials has made these dying arts.
Liopetri is in the 'red soil' area and therefore many vegetables are cultivated, the most famous of which is the Cyprus potato.
There is also some sheep and goat farming in the area.
The village has all local amenities required for a residential area.
To Visit:
Panayia Eleousa Church - A 19th Century church in the centre of the village.
Potamos fishing harbour - A very quaint local fishing harbour with its fishing boats moored up and those returning from an early morning of sea fishing. The fresh fish can be sampled in the two local tavernas.
