Protaras is located in the Ammochostos district on the South East coast of Cyprus. It is in the Paralimni municipality and the prime industry is tourism.
 
Protaras is most famous for its golden sands and crystal blue waters and it attracts millions of tourists each year seeking hotter climates. The picturesque beach of Fig Tree Bay has breathtaking views and is visited by both tourists and locals during the summer months. The start of the tourist season in Protaras is normally early April until the end of October, however some businesses do remain open in the winter.
 
The nightlife in Protaras is targeted more at families relaxing in tavernas and restaurants and is best not to be compared with its close neighbour, Ayia Napa. There are a few nightclubs on the Protaras strip for the young at heart.
