Description:
Kouklia is a village of the Paphos district located just off the main coastal highway linking Limassol and Paphos. Kouklia (also known as Palaipaphos meaning old Paphos) is approximately 16 kms East of Paphos town and close to the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite. Because of its commutable location to Paphos and Limassol, Kouklia has seen a rise in property development for both residential and commercial purposes.Kouklia's history dates back to the Byzantine period and its name is thought to be derived from the word for Byzantine officer 'Kouvikoularios'. During the Frank domination, the name was shortened to Kouklia.
The village, although having modern facilities, still has the ruins of old churches as a reminder of its historical background. It also has 4 churches including the Church of Apostle Luke which was damaged by an earthquake some time ago. It was recently restored by the village community.
