Paphos Airport Now Fully Operational

17 November 2008

Description:

The new Paphos International Airport is fully operational following the Hermes Airport rebuilding project.

The airport expects to be able to handle up to 2.7 million passengers a year and will employ approximately 1,800 staff. The airport was officially opened on 8th November but the final handover of operations was scheduled to take place a week later.

It is hoped that the Paphos airport can now assist Cyprus in becoming a central communications hub between Europe and neighbouring countries. It is also very important to the town of Paphos to have a modern international airport to compete with other European airports with its updated facilities.

Paphos has a large expatriate population, mostly from the UK, and it will be seen as a step forward for the residents of Paphos and those holidaying to Cyprus.

The final step now is to improve the road leading from the airport to the rest of Cyprus which is believed to be on the agenda.
