On Saturday night a man and his baby were killed in a traffic accident on the Limassol - Nicosia highway. The man's wife who was holding the baby on the back seat is also in a critical condition at Limassol General Hospital.
The crash is believed to be caused by a Georgian driver who lost control of his vehicle whilst driving at high speed and possibly under the influence of alcohol, investigations are continuing.
Over the Easter period five people suffered serious burns due to firework accidents. In the worst accident a 15 year old Nicosia youth could lose his hand. The injury was described as being similar to a bomb injury.
In Limassol 3 people suffered hand and face injuries caused by fireworks and in Larnaca a 14 year old boy suffered burns to his neck and damage to his ear caused by a thrown firecracker.
On Friday in Limassol a local resident was shocked to find furniture that had been stored in the basement of her apartment, on top of the local churchyard bonfire or lambratzia as they are known. It appears local youths had been searching for wood for the lambratzia and may have stolen items of furniture from other residents.
