Cyprus Celebrates Labour Day with Festivities

01 May 2009

Description:

Today is a Bank Holiday here in Cyprus known as Labour Day. It is an annual holiday celebrated in many countries all over the world to recognise the achievements of the labour union movement and to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. It is also known as May Day and International worker's Day.

It has its origins in the eight hour day movement, which advocated for eight hours of work, eight hours of recreation and eight hours of rest in a day.
