Description:
From 1st June 2009 Paphos will be included in the Green Dot recycling programme. The programme will see recycling of household waste such as cartons and other papers, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and membranes, aluminium tins and cans in metal packages.
The Green Dot programme was first introduced in February 2007 with several municipalities around Nicosia taking part and was extended in December 2008 to Limassol municipalities.
There are two sorting plants developed to serve the recycling program.
The Minister of Agriculture Michalis Polynikis attended a press conference in Paphos to announce the start date and stated that the Government would be extending the recycling program by injecting €512,680 per year in the districts of Paphos and Famagusta.
The extension of the recycling program will ensure that the targets set by the European Union will be met.
The collection of plastics, metals, drinks cartons (PMD) and paper will take place through kerbside collections as with other solid waste. Drop off points for glass will be set up throughout the Paphos area at locations to be announced.
Paphos residents who requested recycling programmes over the years will now be happy with the Governments decision.
