Description:
The tourist season this year in Cyprus may be one of the most difficult ones faced according to Cyprus President, Demetris Christofias who was addressing the Hoteliers Association annual meeting.
He stressed that Britain, a traditional tourist partner of Cyprus, has been hard hit by the global economic crisis and this will have a knock on effect on tourism here.
According to provisional figures, tourism arrivals have dropped by almost 10% up to the middle of May.
He suggested that hotel owners and other tourist establishments upgrade their packages to make them more attractive to visitors, paying particular attention to not overcharging.
The Cyprus government are also encouraging residents of Cyprus to spend part of their summer holiday in Cyprus.
