Beaches in Cyprus Cleanest in Europe

According to a report by the European Commission and European Environment Agency on bathing water quality, the beaches in Cyprus are the cleanest in Europe.
 

This is great news for the tourism industry in Cyprus as it can be used as a way of encouraging tourists to visit Cyprus.

 
There is a constant pressure on the tourist board to maintain the high standards expected and retain Blue Flag status on the beaches. 109 Cyprus beaches were described as being 'exceptionally clean' for the fourth consecutive year.

 
The EU sets limits for chemical, physical and microbiological parameters and it is up each country's national authorities to ensure that the limits are not exceeded.

 
Water samples are taken during the bathing season and analysed to check standards are being upheld.

 
A further eleven new areas were added to Cyprus's list this year. Europe's top seaside places include Ayia Napa's Nissi Beach, Pissouri Bay and Larnaca's Mackenzie Strip.
