Description:
With all the talk "still" on the global recession, it is still that time of the year when you want to think about booking a relaxing holiday in the sun with an occasional dip in the sea.
The temperature in Cyprus at the moment is around 19 degrees Celsius dropping down to around 8 degrees Celsius at night, but why not book an easter holiday in Cyprus for those wanting some spring sunshine.
Here are our top ten tips to help make your money go further for your holiday.
- 1. Book Online - Check out last minute deals, it may be cheaper to go all inclusive with flights, hotels, food and drink included as opposed to booking hotel and flights separately. Also consider booking a villa if it is for all the family and flight prices are reasonable. Travel during the early hours to get an even better deal.
- 2. Buy Foreign Currency in Advance - Shop around for the best exchange rates and no commission deals. Don't wait until you get to the airport to change your money as it always more expensive to exchange. If exchanging cash, Cyprus often offers a better rate on the high street than the UK.
- 3. Avoid Hefty Mobile Charges - Consider buying an international 'pay as you go' SIM card for your mobile phone which charges nothing to receive calls and costs generally less to make calls than the UK network provider. In Cyprus, it is relatively cheap to buy a local pre paid SIM card and is handy if visiting Cyprus on a regular basis. An even cheaper option is to buy a pre paid phone card in Cyprus and use a public payphone.
- 4. Home Exchanges - What better way to holiday in Cyprus than when it is free! If you know someone who has pets in Cyprus, offering to look after them whilst they take a break saves them and you money. You may even be able to borrow the car!
- 5. Transport - Pre book a return taxi to the airport as this is generally cheaper than just phoning on the day. From Cyprus airports, always confirm the approximate price before travelling in a taxi. The airports in Cyprus have buses that go to the main towns at reasonable prices. It is worth checking out good value car hire deals.
- 6. Discount Vouchers - Check out online discount vouchers as sometimes it is possible to get holiday discounts on flights and hotels.
- 7. Travel Insurance - For people who travel more than a couple of trips a year, it is probably cheaper to get the annual travel insurance. Some insurance companies offer cheaper family travel insurance on both single and multi-trips. Buy online for the best deals.
- 8. Credit Cards Abroad - Paying on the credit card or using it to get cash from an ATM on holiday will incur additional charges so it is worth comparing pre paid cards and international travel credit cards to get the best deals and exchange rates.
- 9. Cheap Airport Parking - There are many airport parking agents that compete online offering great deals for long stay airport parking - shop around online to compare prices. Some hotels close to airports also offer free parking for the time you are away if you stay for at least a night at their hotel.
- 10. Avoid Extra Flight Charges - It is worth noting that some companies offering flights don't always put the 'extra charges' in to the price until the end so it may appear cheap to start with. Check the baggage allowance and cost of excess baggage. Paying a bit extra for baggage may avoid the pricey excess baggage charges. Weigh your luggage before going to the airport.
