What is Agrotourism?
Agrotourism in is the name used to encourage visitors to experience the agricultural way of life at first hand.
How is this interpreted to Agrotourism in Cyprus?
The aim is to give visitors a firsthand insight into the countryside's traditional villages of Cyprus showing local customs, traditions and historical architecture.
Where did the Agrotourism project come from?
In 1995 the Cyprus Tourism Organisation created the Cyprus Agrotourism Company and developed a program to restore traditional village houses.
Why implement in Cyprus?
Cyprus has an abundance of picturesque villages taking visitors back to past times. Many villages have interesting historical sites and artefacts from ancient times. The traditional mouth watering cuisine and the cultural practices entice visitors to stay in the villages.
There has also been an upward trend in tourists and locals visiting or wishing to stay in the villages away from the busy coastal tourist areas of Cyprus.
How has the program helped to restore the properties?
Properties that had become run down in the rural Cyprus villages were encouraged to renovate in order to be licensed and rented to tourists.
What types of properties are available?
The properties are all unique in their own way. From traditional stone built homes to quaint studios and apartments or maybe a cosy cottage to take in the cool summer night's breeze. All the properties have been renovated with modern kitchens and bathrooms and some even have their own outdoor swimming pool.
Where are the properties located?
The traditional properties that have been licensed by the Cyprus Agrotourism Company are located in the Paphos, Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia countryside with many being in the Troodos area.
They are situated in quiet, tranquil areas far away from crowded towns and bustling beaches.
Agrotourism holidays are the perfect way to spend your time visiting Cyprus and are especially interesting to nature lovers, hikers and cyclists who enjoy the country lifestyle.
