Description:
Cyprus Agriculture Minister, Michalis Polynikis, has confirmed the proposed construction of a temporary desalination plant whilst a permanent solution is obtained.
There have been problems over signing of the contracts with two desalination plants at Episkopi and an Electricity Authority (EAC) site.
The problems have meant a delay in constructing the plants by several years and the Cyprus government are now looking at alternative solutions.
The Agriculture Minister remains positive that Cyprus will not be dependent on rainfalls in the future. It is hoped that the temporary mobile unit will be up and running in 9 to 12 months time.
However, water cuts have continued throughout Cyprus this summer due to water levels in the reservoirs still being low.
