Paphos Sees Increase in Local Tourism

17 August 2009

Description:

Paphos hoteliers and restaurant owners have seen an upturn in tourism this month with local Cypriots choosing to take their holidays in the coastal tourist resort in Cyprus.

Many Cypriots normally take a vacation to Paphos or Protaras on the east coast of Cyprus this time of the year but the numbers appear to have increased in August.

Cyprus has been hit by low tourist figures this season mainly due to the global recession, the devaluation of the pound sterling against the euro and the H1N1 Swine Flu.

However, the same can be said for local residents of Cyprus who are feeling 'the pinch' financially and are holidaying at the beach resorts in Cyprus as opposed to travelling abroad.

Local attractions such as the Paphos Bird and Animal Park and the Paphos Aphrodite Water Park have also seen an increase of customers compared to the same time last year.
