Description:
The Cyprus Road Transport Department are looking at new ways to notify drivers who forget to renew their MOT.
Many people now use a mobile phone and the department are looking into the possibility of notifying drivers by an SMS text message prior to the MOT certificate expiration.
Currently, vehicle owners are informed by letter when their MOT has expired resulting in many driving on the roads illegally.
The Cyprus Road Transport Department has the mobile numbers of many vehicle owners but has to check out legislation regarding privacy law before implementing the SMS scheme.
The law at present when driving without a valid MOT certificate also suspends the vehicle's road tax, resulting in two offences if stopped by the police.
However, insurance companies in Cyprus may also refuse to pay for damages if the motorist is involved in an accident and the vehicle is not covered by a valid MOT.
If a vehicle is four years old, it is required to have an MOT test. The MOT certificate in Cyprus currently lasts for two years.
If you require any further information or wish to book your vehicle in for an MOT test, we have listed below a testing centre from each town in Cyprus:
Testing Centres:
Nicosia: MOT Ltd Kokkinis Testing Station - (+357) 22 877 707 or 467 544
