Larnaca Airport Passes Initial Trials

19 September 2009

Description:

Larnaca International Airport completed a successful trial operation earlier this week according to Cyprus airport operators, Hermes Airports.

The trial, which assessed new procedures and systems in place, was tested on 200 volunteer passengers.

This first test involved the passengers completing the check-in, passport control and passage to the air bridges for departure.

Passengers were then returned to the airport building through passport control to the arrivals hall to collect their luggage.

There was also a series of staged unexpected incidents to test staff in the event of emergencies.

Further trials will be carried out before the new Larnaca International Airport opens in November.

The new airport will have 16 air bridges, 67 check-in desks, 48 gates, moving walkways, and departures and arrivals will be on different ground levels. There will also be around 2650 public car park spaces.
