New Larnaca Port and Marina Development to Begin Soon

23 September 2009

Description:

The long awaited Larnaca marina and port development project is due to begin according to Nicos Nicolaides, Cyprus Communications and Works Minister.

The new port in Larnaca will be able to hold around 1,000 boats which is a step up from the current mooring of 400 boats.

The project, estimated to cost around €1 billion, will include the construction of new luxury hotels, properties and commercial buildings.

The development is expected to take approximately three years with the final completion of the land infrastructure to be completed within six years.

Upon completion, Larnaca port will be able to accommodate large luxury cruise ships and compete with the Limassol port for trade.

The port will be owned as a private company for a period of 35 years after which time it will be handed back to the public sector.

In addition to the port, Larnaca will also see the opening of the new Larnaca International Airport in November providing better and upgraded facilities to entice travellers to Cyprus.
