Description:
The Christmas cards are in the shops and the decorations are starting to go up around the towns in Cyprus, yet the sun is still shining brightly and temperatures this week have been in the early 30's around the low grounds of Cyprus.
During the week Nicosia experienced highs of 34 degrees Celsius which is around six degrees higher than the October average.
Is it a result of global warming that we are still experiencing these temperatures in mid October? According to Cyprus' Meteorological Service this is a result of two weather factors which may not be connected at all with global warming.
The combination of low pressure over the Balkans and high pressure in Cyprus brings the warm easterly and south easterly winds. Also subsidence of the lower part of the atmosphere has been seen which is associated with warm air.
Temperatures are expected to stay the around the same until Tuesday and many people living in Cyprus and visiting the island will be making the most of the glorious sunshine.
