Description:
High temperatures are set to continue around the coastal areas of Cyprus this week. The beautiful sunshine has meant the continued use of barbecues, trips down to the deserted beaches and even a dip in the swimming pool - although that might be going a bit too far!
But the longer summers and the colder winters are a sure sign of climate change in Eastern Europe.
The Cyprus House of Representatives have become concerned about the visible effects of climate change.
It has adopted a resolution and will look to achieve the goals set out by the European Union to deal with the global climate challenge.
The UN Climate Change Conference will meet in Copenhagen in December where it is hoped that a binding and substantive agreement is reached.
The water shortage in Cyprus is also a major factor that has played its part in climate change. However, we seem to have had an abundance of rain in many parts of the island - the Nicosia flooding highlighted the fact that sometimes the island cannot cope with too much rain all at once.
There is also the construction of the three desalination plants with more planned in the future which will take the focus away from the under filled dams.
The sunshine is set to continue until the weekend where we will then have some scattered showers around the low ground. Well at least we can take advantage of this warm weather here in Cyprus while it lasts!
