Cyprus is still popular with UK customers booking package holidays. Although with sterling struggling against the Euro, Turkey has now become the number one package holiday destination from UK.
A package holiday price war is looming in UK as tour operator’s battle for customers in the wake of the recession.
Holiday firms have seen increasing numbers of customers booking trips for next year and they are expected to start slashing prices in an effort to get a bigger share of the market.
Trevor Davis, director of retail distribution at Co-operative Travel, said: "As the holiday sector recovers, the battle for bookers will intensify, with firms seeking to increase their market share after a challenging 12 months."
Mr Davies said bookings for the top 20 summer 2010 destinations have risen sharply in the past three months. The Turkish resort of Dalaman has seen an 82% increase in bookings and has taken over from Majorca as the No1 destination in 2010.
Majorca is now in second place, with Orlando, Florida, third, the Spanish Costa Blanca fourth and the Greek island of Crete fifth.
Other destinations high on the booking list include Bodrum in Turkey, Ibiza and Larnaca in Cyprus.
Thomas Cook predicted Turkey will be the in place for 2010, with Egypt, Majorca, Tenerife and Cyprus all doing well too.
