The former Cyprus President, Tassos Papadopoulos has been diagnosed with lung cancer.Tassos Papadopoulos, who was president of Cyprus from 2003 to 2008, is in the intensive care unit of Nicosia General hospital and specialists have confirmed that he is suffering from the disease. He was admitted to Nicosia General on 22nd November suffering from acute respiratory problems.
One of the most common causes of lung cancer is long term exposure to tobacco smoke. A high percentage of Cypriots smoke compared to other European countries.
Mr Papadopoulos is aware of the diagnosis and is in a stable condition.
