England began their defence of the Cyprus Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over South Africa in Larnaca on Wednesday.

The goal came in the fifth minute as Jill Scott tapped in from close range after South Africa failed to deal with a cross into the box.

The England side lifted the Cyprus Cup last year which inspired them to go on and reach the final of the European Championships in Finland.

England’s next game is on Friday against Canada.
