Fuel Strike Is Over In Cyprus

26 February 2010

Description:

After a meeting yesterday between petrol station owners, petrol companies and the Commerce Minister a solution to the strike was agreed and all petrol stations across the Island are now open.

The strike action was bringing the country to a standstill particularly in Paphos where no petrol stations were open.

The president of the Cyprus Petrol Station Owners Association, Stephanos Stephanou said that the owners had realised the inconvenience to the public and decided to end their strike action as a show of goodwill.

Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides thanked the petrol station owners and the petrol companies praising a responsible attitude on the part of the petrol station owners.

The strike action was in response to price capping by the government introduced on Monday.
