Cyprus on Irish Pork Import List

Description:

Cyprus is on the list of countries that have imported Irish pork which has found to be contaminated with dioxin. 
 
The list that was issued to Brussels today was made up of 12 European countries and nine non-EU contries. The 12 European countries affected are Belgium, Britain, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, the Nethelands, Poland, Portugal and Sweden.
 
A representative from the Cyprus Veterinary Authority will meet with other affected EU country representatives today to coordinate measures to prevent the spread of the contaminated meat.
 
Dioxins can be absorbed through the skin and ingested in food and can be linked to cancer if high or long term exposure to dioxins occur.
