Description:
Paphos International Airport may become a seasonal operation, closing in the winter months, this would leave Cyprus with only Larnaca Airport open during the winter months.
The decision will depend on air traffic at the airport, Minister of Communications and Works Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis has said during a visit to the airport.
The Minister was asked to comment following reports that the airport managing company intends to suspend operations during the winter season.
Marcoullis said the whole matter would be examined ''always within the international regulations framework”, noting that Cyprus is a small country and Paphos airport is an auxiliary airport for Cyprus.
Hermes Airports Chairman Nicos Shacolas said that the issue of closing the airport during the winter months is an issue to be considered depending on the conditions in October - November, noting that the managing company will act in the best interest of the country.
Marcoullis said she had been briefed on some problems faced by Paphos airport, which would be examined with the relevant departments of the Ministry and the managing company, the representatives of which she met during her visit to the airport.
