John Christopher William Kidd is the new British Commissioner for Cyprus. Speaking on Thursday he said the procedure for a settlement of the Cyprus problem stands at an important juncture.
 

Kidd repeated the UK’s readiness to support Cyprus and help bring a result nearer whilst presenting his credentials to President Demetris Christofias.
  

He recalled the unique commitments each country has to the other, derived from the Treaties under which Cyprus established its independence, noting that these provide a 50-year-old framework for cooperation, “which should be an opportunity, not a constraint, to building even closer links between our countries to our mutual benefit.”
 

Kidd said there is a particular intensity to the relationship between Cyprus and the United Kingdom.
