Description:
Cyprus’s first international beer festival opens today, within the framework of the 35th Cyprus International Fair.
The festival will be formally opened at 7.30 pm and feature 42 draught and bottled beers, including KEO, Carlsberg, Leon, Heineken, Guinness, Stella Artois, Becks, Caffrey’s and Hoegaarden.
The festival will run for five days in an area near the Fair’s North Entrance where visitors will be able to enjoy a drink or two whilst listening to a range of music provided by DJ’s and a live band on each day.
Entrance to the Beer Festival is free, and each adult will receive a free glass of Cypriot beer, State Fair Authority (SFA) President Loizos Constantinou told reporters that the Festival aims to promote “measured and responsible beer-drinking”.
He said that the aim is for the Beer Festival to become an annual event “and part of the cultural activity of Nicosia and the island as a whole”.
The CTO (Cyprus Tourism Organisation) will be doing its bit to combat drinking and driving by laying on free coach transport from tourist areas to and from the Festival.
