Service Stations for Cyprus Highways

31 May 2010

Description:

After many complaints at the lack of service stations on the highways in Cyprus the Government is now looking at ways to provide resting areas with toilets and petrol stations.

The Communications Ministry said it was examining the possibility of building stations with toilets, resting areas, restaurants and petrol stations.

Until tender procedures can be launched for private developers to build proper service stations, like those in the rest of Europe, a preliminary measure is to create toilet facilities at current weighing stations.

This is in response to complaints by tourists, who rent cars and are shocked to find there are no resting areas to use the toilet or fill up on petrol.

The lack of facilities is also a problem for professional drivers, who are often on the roads for hours on end, without the ability to stop off and rest.
