Description:

In an update to bus travel in Cyprus, the Cyprus parliament has given the go ahead to launch an island-wide bus service.
 

The government will have to first resolve the compensation payouts to bus companies that do not wish to join the new scheme known as OSEL.
 

Under the new scheme, an island bus trip could cost around €10. There are plans for an all day travel ticket within and between districts. The proposed costs are:
 

Nicosia to Paphos - €5

Nicosia to Limassol - €4

Nicosia to Larnaca - €3

Unlimited day trip travel within district - €2

Single trip within district - €1

Weekly pass - €10

 
By keeping the cost of bus travel down and creating a regular bus service, the government hopes to encourage more travellers to use public transport in Cyprus.
