Nicosia to Get Modern Bus Terminal

Description:

Solomou Square in Nicosia is to become a modern and functional bus station in the heart of Nicosia’s historic and commercial centre.
 

The contract for work to begin was signed on Friday by Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou and construction company Cybarco. The project is estimated to cost €4.8 million and will be funded by the European Regional Development Fund of the EU, the Cyprus Government and the Nicosia Municipality.
 

The project will be completed in two phases with the first phase due to begin within days and the project scheduled to finish in about 12 months time.
 

The new-look Solomou Square will include a covered central island with electronically displayed travel information, new sidewalks and pedestrian crossings as well as separate bus lanes, new bus stops, and an information office.
 

The Mayor said not only will the scheme upgrade Solomou Square it will also improve traffic flows by organising traffic lanes into bus, car, and pedestrian lanes.
