Description:
The 49th Wine Festival in Limassol opened its doors on Friday and will run until Sunday 5th September.
The festival is an inspiration of ancient festivals dedicated to Dionysos, the God of Wine and Aphrodite, the Goddess of Beauty and Love.
The festival is an annual event to celebrate wine and wine-making in Cyprus and is hosted by Limassol Municipality at the Limassol Municipal Gardens.
According to archaeological finds, wine is Cyprus’s oldest known drink and was produced on the island more than 5,500 years ago.
Local wineries will be displaying their locally produced wines which can be tasted free of charge compliments of the Limassol Municipality.
The festival has a party atmosphere with folkloric dancers, songs, theatrical performances from local and International artistic groups which can be enjoyed whilst sampling the vast array of foods on offer.
A famous saying for the Limassol Wine Festival is ‘Drink Wine, It Gives You Life’ .
